Anthony Gurrola

Anthony Joseph Gurrola, 24, was called home to the Lord on Monday, October, 12, 2026. He was a beloved son, grandson, cousin, and friend to many. Anthony’s life began February 28, 2002, in Houston, TX,  to Michael Gurrola and Mary Moreno. They described Anthony’s birth as miraculous due to the fact that he was placed in NICU just days after with a severe respiratory infection that was life threatening. Anthony fought and conquered the odds that were set against him. This followed Anthony throughout his days.

Though from Houston, Texas, Anthony took root in Sinton, Texas and was a graduate of the class of 2020 (last Pirate). He participated in many extracurricular activities in his tenure at Sinton High School including Band, Choir and Tennis as well as an alter server at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Sinton, Texas. Classmates and family members would both agree that Anthony was often the one that would surprise them at functions due to his quiet demeanor and spirit and would become the life of any event changing perspectives instantaneously. Anthony was a spirited soul with a big heart who loved to dance, sing, and entertain you with his charm, humor and quick wit.  There is much emphasis placed on his kind and gentle ways with family, friends and strangers, and compassion to help others before himself. His heart was one that could not be contained. His smile was infectious and his laugh was just the same. He could make anyone laugh due to his knack and quirky sense of humor. He was also very good with nicknames. To be nicknamed by Anthony was an honor as he usually was spot on with that. He also was known by many nicknames, including “AJ”,“Tony” ,“Itchy”, and “Big Twan” by family and friends.

Anthony was a lover of animals. He mostly loved dogs. He was a pet brother and father over the years to Precious, Pinky (his favorite dog), Frankie, Abby, Angel (Hankla), and Shelby (Welby) and they all knew one thing from Anthony…and that was that they were loved and these pets loved him back.

Anthony is preceded in death by his great grandparents Jesus (Sr.) and Marie Moreno (Sinton, TX) Manuel and Blasa Deleon (Sinton, TX),  Johnny and Grace Sandoval (Houston, TX) Victor and Chevy Gurrola (Houston, TX) grandfather Victor Gurrola, Sr. (Magnolia, TX), great aunts Olivia Villanueva (Houston TX), Esther Moreno (Houston, TX), Mary Deleon Thomas (San Antonio, TX) Ofelia “Ofie” Smith (Sinton, TX) Elma Deleon (Sinton, TX) and uncle Genovevo “Gene” Moreno (Houston, TX).

Left to cherish his memory are his grandparents Jesus (Jr.) and Eloisa Moreno (Houston, TX), Andres and Ruth Esquivel (Houston, TX) Mary Ann Gurrola (Magnolia, TX) parents Mary Moreno (Houston, TX), Michael and Bobbie Jo Gurrola (Cleveland, TX) step brother Sean Alonzo Fernandez (Houston, TX) uncles and aunts Steven J. Moreno (Houston,TX), Victor and Desiree Gurrola (Philadelphia, PA), Jesus “Jr.” and Angelica Covarrubias (Humble, TX), Jose and Cynthia Esquivel (Atascocita, TX), Jose “Hugo” Navarro and Maria Esquivel (Houston, TX) and numerous cousins and friends.

Though Anthony is no longer with us, his love, kindness, compassion, wit, and humor remain with us all and provide a long lasting impression that we will forever hold dear in our hearts. He gave so freely of himself that it truly felt as though this world could not contain his heart. He leaves a piece of his heart with us all and the world was made a bit better place because Anthony was a part of it.
