Manuel Lara, 60, went to be with the Lord on
Sunday, July 12, 2015 following a sudden illness.
 
Manuel was born in Edroy, Texas to Lazaro and Estella Lara,Sr. He attended Odem-Edroy ISD and he joined the Army in 1973. He later received his GED while serving in the Army. He received a degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Texas in Austin and another degree in Drafting and Design from South
Texas Vocational College.
 
He owned his own janitorial business in Austin. He later moved back to Edroy and served as City Manager for the City of Mathis from 1998 to 2008. He served as City Manager for the City of San Benito from 2008 to the present.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Lazaro Lara, his brothers-in-law, Bacilio Ortiz, Johnny Lopez and Daniel Pina.
 
He is survived by his loving family,
his sons - Paul Anthony Lara and Daniel Lazarus (Jennifer) Lara, his daughters - Sara Elise Lara and Araceli Clarissa Lara, grandchildren  - Noah Abraham Villarreal, Ava Danielle Alvarez, Mia Grace Lara and Lazarus Aries Lara, his brother and sisters - Genoveva Ortiz, Petra (Raul) Cavazos, Augustine (Maricela) Lara, Leonor (Onofre) Flores of Edroy, Aurora (Salvador) Garcia, Maria Nieves (Lorenzo) Olivarez, Ofelia Lopez, Beatrice Pina, Estella (Robert) Martinez of Odem and Eufemia (Rene) Cantu of Freer.

Toribio "Toby" Serna Jr., 46, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2015 following a long illness. He was born on June 1, 1969 in Sinton, Texas where he was raised.
 
He attended Sinton schools and was last employed by the city of Sinton as a maintenance man.
 
He is survived by his sons,Toribio Serna III and Joshua Serna of Sinton, his sister,
Brandie Vargas of Sinton, his brother, Francisco Serna of Dallas, his aunt Sulema
Gutierrez of Corpus Christi, cousins and friends.

Warren T."Buddy" Vickers passed away peacefully Friday, September 4, 2015.

 

Buddy served three years in World War II overseas as a scout in the infantry reaching the rank of Staff Sargeant with honors by the end of the war.

 

After returning from the war he met the love of his life Treva Lane, they married in November 1946. They would have celebrated 69 years of marriage this year.

 

He was a country man at heart and spent his life doing what he loved most, farming and ranching. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby Vickers and Hugh Vickers,Sr., two brothers, Roy Vickers and Hugh Vickers, Jr., a sister, Dellave "Sissy" Brittain and one grandson, Buck Vickers.


Survivors include his wife,Treva and four children, Bub Vickers, Bob Vickers and wife Amy, Judy Segers and husband Jim, Cherry Ethridge and husband Neal, 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11AM  Monday, September 7, 2015 at Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home with Rev.Tom Stockton officiating.

 

Interment will follow at Sinton Cemetery with military honors.

Ernestina "Tina" Bargas, was a woman of faith. She was surrounded by her loving family and entered into eternal rest Wednesday, September 9, 2015.

 

Tina will always be remembered as a loving wife, loving mother, caring grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

 

Mrs. Bargas is survived by her children, Linda Jane (Jose Roberto) Ortiz Sr., Francisco (Baudelia) Bargas Jr., Olga (Gustavo) Gonzales Sr., Irma Ortiz, Diana (Carlos) Torres Jr., Ida Butler, Norma (James) Martinez, sisters Elida Cortinas, Helena Reyna, Elva Avila, Dolores Martinez and sister­ in­-law, Eva Ortiz; brothers Benito Cortinas Jr., George Cortinas;

15 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 1 great great grand

child, numerous family members and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Francisco Bargas Sr.

Ruby Ann Hesseltine was a devoted wife, mom and grandmother. She was a faithful employee of both Sinton ISD and Refugio ISD, touching lives amongst both staff and students for many years.

 

Ruby loved giving of herself to others, whether family and friends or complete strangers. She never tired of helping anyone in need. Ruby was the backbone of her family and always had a smile on her face.

 

Ruby had many talents, cooking, sewing, carpentry and gardening. She also loved to travel with her daughters, going on different adventures across the country.

 

Ruby and her husband, Jim, were married for 41 years and are now finally reunited with one another for all eternity. She was preceded in death by her sister, Charlie Ward and her husband, Jim Hesseltine.

 

She left behind a family that loved her dearly, consisting of her son, Jeff Hesseltine of Luling,Texas, her daughters, Tiffany Jones of New Braunfels, Texas, Shanna White of Boerne, Texas, Mandy Hesseltine of Portland, Texas,  Debbie Slaughter of Vidor,Texas, adopted member of the family, Nicole Garcia of San Antonio, Texas, her father, Shorty Ward of Freer, Texas, her mother, Hazel Graham of Mathis, Texas, her brother, John Meyers of Austin, Texas,  her sister, Dona Dye of Austin, Texas, 7 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Samuels officiating.

 

Interment followed at the Sinton Cemetery.

 

 

 

Juan Gomez Rodriguez, 70, born on May 15,1945, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2015 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was preceded in death by his wife Odilia Rodriguez, father Gregorio Rodriguez, his mother Josefa Gomez Rodriguez, his brothers, Martin and Jose, his sisters Pauline Rodriguez and Petra Blanco.

 

He is survived by his brother Pablo (Yolanda) Rodriguez, his sister Margarita Flores and special grandniece Enola Cordova and a special friend Stephanie Garza.

 

He was a former employee of the South Texas Health System for three years and a former employee of the United States Postal Service for 29 years.

 

He was a Vietnam veteran and a recipient of the Commendation medal plus other military medals. He was a life long member of American Legion of Rockport,Texas, the VFW of Ingleside, Texas and the Disabled American Veterans of Texas.

 

He was a 1964 honor graduate of Sinton High School and a 1966 graduated of Del Mar College. He received his BBA degree from Texas A&I University in Kingsville in 1974.

 

He was loved by family members and friends and he will be missed dearly.

Angela Marie Curlee38,went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 16, 2016 at her home in Temple, Texas.

 

Angela was born October 30, 1977 to Wayne and Jana Neagle. She grew up in Ponder, Texas. She married her husband
Christopher Keith Curlee on March 14, 1998. They had two sons Hunter Wayne and Christian Bryan.

 

She was a loving supportive military wife and mother. She is preceded in death by her grandmother Lois Glines Clark and her son Bryan Curlee.

 

She is survived by her husband Keith and son Hunter of Temple, Texas, in-laws, Chris and Brenda Curlee of Sinton
Texas, aunt Jerri Miller of Hurst, Texas, grandfather, L.E. Clark (Mary) of Dish, Texas, brother-in-law Ken (Emily) Curlee of
Temple, Texas, sister-in-law Kerry (Fred) Van Cleave of Mineola, Texas along with her nieces and nephews that adored
their Gigi, whom she spoiled rotten.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Sinton. Interment will be at Sinton Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation or the Wounded Warrior Family Support.

 

 

Edward (Eddie) Ray Perez, 62, of San Antonio, Texas passed on to heaven 12/23/2015 at 7:30PM  in a Galveston hospital.


Eddie was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on 7/17/1953 to Henry C. and Gloria Perez. He attended Crocket Elementary,
Cunningham Junior High and graduated from Foy H. Moody High School.

 

Eddie was a disabled Vietnam Era veteran and received a honorable discharge from the Army on March 1976. He was a certified welder for Gulf Marine in the
early 90's and on April 9, 2014 became an Ordained Minister,"with all the rights and privileges to perform all duties of the Ministry".

 

On September 25, 2014 he was awarded a honorary Doctorate of Divinty Degree by the Universal Life Church.

 

Eddie throughout the years was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved to play the guitar. In the 1960's, at 14 years of age, he was the lead guitarist in a band that played one live performance on the televised Domingo Pena Sunday morning show.

 

Eddie was a beloved husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.


Eddie was preceded in death by his parents Henry C. and Gloria Perez. He is survived by his sons,William and MichaelBenavides, wife,Alladeen Perez (two step daughters Melanie and Heather), sister, Gloria Burkig (Tom), two brothers, Roger Perez (Amy), Henry Perez (Melissa) and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

 

A celebration of Eddie's life will be held at the Perez Ranch, Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 2:30PM

 

 

Robert William Simpson, age 91, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2016. Robert was a kind, generous, loving and happy man who will be greatly missed by his friends and family. 

 

Born June 9,1924 in Beaumont, he spent most of his childhood in Rockport and San Antonio. After serving in the Army in the Philippines during World War II, he settled in Corpus Christi, where he met and married his wife of 61 years, Margaret Simpson. In 1967, Robert, Margaret and their three children moved to Portland where he spent the remainder of his life.

 

Robert enjoyed a varied career, first selling sporting goods and athletic equipment to schools throughout South Texas, then working as Inspector of Boxing and Wrestling for the Texas Department of Labor and Standards. Robert enjoyed sharing many colorful stories about his time as inspector, meeting many well-known boxers and wrestlers of his time.

 

Robert was a devoted and cheerful family man. He adored his wife, children and grandchildren. Even though he did not have the opportunity to meet his great granddaughter in person, he loved hearing updates and seeing pictures and videos, which he shared with all his visitors.

 

Robert was preceded in death by his wife Margaret, son John, parents Francis and May Simpson, and brothers, Charles Simpson and Francis Simpson.

 

He is survived by his son, Robert (Mary) Simpson of Fort Davis, daughter, Rebecca (Chris) Pease of Lacombe, Louisiana, three grandchildren, Allison Pease (Drew Dittmer) of Lubbock, Emily Pease of Austin and Dylan Simpson-Wilk of Portland and his great granddaughter Hazel Margaret Dittmer of Lubbock.

 

The family wishes to extend special thanks to Clare Gilmore, Lee Johnson, Madonna Moore, Christy Evans and Israel Blanco of Christus Hospice and Dr.Lee Sang and his staff for their extraordinary care during Robert's prolonged illness. We will always remember the kindness and comfort they provided to Robert and the entire family.

Anita Barrera Garza, 95, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 11, 2016 following a sudden illness.

 

She was born in Laredo, Texas and had been a lifelong resident of Sinton. She had been employed as a bartender.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Guadalupe Luna of Corpus Christi, 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 10 great great grandchildren.

Florencio Gomez, Jr.,69, loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 surrounded by his family, following a short illness.

 

He was born and raised in Odem and worked in sales all his life. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a US Army veteran. One of his favorite pastimes was watching his grandchildren play ball. 

 

He was preceded in death by his son, David Ray Gomez, his mother, Maria Medellin, his brothers, Claudio Medellin and Rene Gomez, his father-in-lawand mother-in-law, Gabriel and Catarina Lira and his brother-in-law Angel Lira.

 

He is survived by his loving family, his wife Juanita "Janie" Lira Gomez of Odem, his son Gabriel (Priscilla) Gomez of Odem, his daughters Venessa (Anthony)Martinez of Odem and Barbara Gomez of San Antonio, his brother Raymond Gomez of Hale Center, Texas, five sisters Maria Carmen Lopez and Janie Medellin of Odem, Diana Trevino and Theresa Gomez of Hale Center, Texas and Lorena Arellano of Kingsville, his father Florencio Gomez, Sr. of Hale Center, Texas, four grandchildren, Catarina Mia Martinez, Anthony "A.J." Martinez, Jr., Julian Gabriel Gomez and David Ray Gomez.

Judith LaJuan Rittiman, 87, passed from this life on March 30, 2016. She was a registered nurse, a past International Council President of Epsilon Sigma Alpha and more importantly, a member of the Borden Street Church of Christ in Sinton.

 

She was devoted to her husband, Melross, for 54 years before his death in 2003. They spent many hours side by side in the operating room of the Ewing Hospital in Sinton, Texas. After they retired, they spent much time together playing golf and traveling.

 

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Yates, her son Chuck (Kathy) of Sinton and her son, Michael of Las Vegas, Nevada. She was predeceased by three brothers, John Carroll, Don and Jack Snowden, son-in-lawJoe Yates, and one great grandson, Douglas Carawan.

 

She is also survived by five grandchildren, Jay (Stacy) Yates, Meagan (Doug) Carawan, Jenell (Ray) Cole, Ross ( Lyndsey) Rittiman and Meredith (Tommy) Bowers, 17 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

 

Also surviving her are numerous sorority sisters. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St.Jude Children's Research Hospital. Judy's favorite charity. The address is 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

 

Services will be conducted on Saturday, Apil 2, 2016 at

2:00PM at the Borden Street Church of Christ. The family will receive visitors before the services at 1:00PM in the church building. Interment will follow at Palms Memorial Gardens between Taft and Gregory.

Harold L. Walker, 92, passed away May 5, 2016 in Corpus Christi,Texas. He was born on September 21, 1923 in
Cleburne, Texas. He proudly served as a Corporal in the 6th Marine Division during War World II on the Pacific front. He
worked for Central Power & Light and retired in 1987. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed woodworking. He will
always be remembered for his devotion to God and his family. He was a member of Travis Baptist Church in Corpus
Christi. Harold is preceded in death by his beloved wife Roberta (Berdie) Walker of 63 years, his parents, Eddie and
Lucille Walker, brothers, Eddie, Jr. and Garland Walker, sister Karen Hamilton and son-in-law Jim Lukehart Jr.

 

He is survived by his daughters; Francine Lukehart of Waskom, Texas, Jeanne (Vic) Spacek of Victoria, Texas and Sharon
(John) Cobb of Aransas Pass, Texas, his sister, Patricia O'Malia of Cleburne, Texas, six grandchildren, thirteen great-
grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, two nieces, one nephew and several great-nieces and nephews.

 

We want to thank the nurses, the CNA's and the staff at Mirador Plaza who took such wonderful care of our beloved Harold. There were a handful that were extremely special to him and us and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Maria Benita Lopez, 85, loving mother and grandmother went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 29, 2016 following a long illness. She was born in Sinton, Texas and had been a lifelong resident of Odem.

 

She was a housewife and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the Guadalupanas. She loved doing crossword puzzles and watching her Novelas.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicanor Lopez, Sr., her three daughters, Ofelia Gomez,
Juanita Gamez and Olivia Cruz, one grandchild, Nicky Lopez, her parents, Benito and Jesusa Coronado and one special godmother that raised her from childhood, Bernaida Coronado.

 

She is survived by her loving family, eight children, Maria Lopez of Ricardo,Tx., Ruben (Janie) Lopez of Zapata,Tx., Juan Lopez and Linda Lopez of Odem, Nicanor (Charlene) Lopez, Jr. of Baytown,Tx., Robert Lopez, Rudy Lopez and Rene Lopez of Odem and one special grandson, Adam Lopez, 17 grandchildren,17 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren, her special sister-in-law,Virginia Garza of Odem.

Juan Villarreal Trujillo, 90, died on July 25, 2016 at the age of 90.  He passed peacefully in his sleep Monday morning at his home in Sinton, Texas, in the presence of his loving daughter Linda Ramon, daughter-in-law, Dianna Trujillo, and his grand-daughter Amber Trujillo.  Juan had a long and happy life with a big family. 

 

He was born on February 8, 1926, in Woodsboro, Texas, and was the first born son of Tomas and Ramona Trujillo, who had a family of 10 children, all born in Texas.  At the age of 5, he and his family moved to Sinton, Texas where he grew up and eventually met the love of his life, Beatrice Longoria Anzaldua, upon returning home from WWII.  They married four years later, on March 26, 1950 in Gonzales, Texas. 

 

They had 4 children, 10 grandchildren, and 18 great-grand children.  Juan served in the US Army from 1945-1946.  He was stationed in Germany and France, and received the WWII Victory Medal & The Army of Occupation Medal.

 

Juan was preceded in death by his parents Tomas Hernandez Trujillo & Ramona Villarreal Trujillo; his wife Beatrice Anzaldua Trujillo; his brothers: Victor, Pablo, Tomas, and Benito Trujillo; and his Sisters: Elvira Trujillo and Mary T. Gonzales.

 

He is survived by his brother Jimmy V. Trujillo, and his sisters Salome T. Garza, and Nieves T. Cerda; his 2 sons: Oscar & Juan "Popo" Trujillo Jr; his daughters: Linda T. Ramon, and Sylvia T. Walter.  And Cindy Ann Ivy, whom he raised and loved as his own. (10) Grandchildren and (19) Great Grand Children.

Rhoda Dee Kirchman, 89, loving mother and grandmother passed away on Sunday, July 31,2016 following a short illness.


She was born on November 27,1926 in Luling, Texas to George and Lorena Carter. She had resided in Odem since 1952 and had been employed as a cashier and office manager for the Odem Grocery Store until her retirement in 2007.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband Gernal Kirchman, her grandson, Warren Nix, two brothers and two sisters.

 

She is survived by her loving family, daughters, Barbara Mann of Sinton and Shirley Nix of Odem,(4) grandchildren, (21) great grandchildren and (9) great great grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM Monday, August 8, 2016 at Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home with Rev.Willis Moore, officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Odem.

Sinton, Texas

 

Frank Ebenezer "Pat" Patrova, 91, passed away peacefully in his sleep on

September 2, 2016. He was born in Mentor-on-the Lake, Ohio on March 7,1925 to Steve Petrovasky and Minnie Heger.

 

He graduated from Madison High School in 1942 and entered the Navy on

February 17,1945. He was a fighter pilot surviving two wars. He retired from the Navy as a
Lt. Commander in 1966 out of Chase Field, Beeville, Tx. Following his Navy Retirement Frank became Chief of Police of Sinton,Tx and then Port Aransas,Tx before being elected as Justice of Peace Precinct 1 in San Patricio County,Tx. He was a Judge from 1979-1996.

 

He was preceded in death by both his Mother and Father, brothers, Walter Patrova, John
Patrova, Robert Bair, Lester (Teddy) Bair and sisters, Elizabeth Babisch, Dolly Allen and Cora Shutack.

 

Frank is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Margaret, three daughters, Deborah (Bobby) Kennedy of Houston, Karen (Gary) Byrd of Calallen, Cheryl (Billy) Rhodes of Oklahoma and one son Timothy Patrova of Sinton along with six grandchildren,
Morgan Kennedy, Trevor Mawer, Kody Kemp, Lacey Edwards, Lindsay Edwards and Christopher Patrova and one great grandchild, Ayden Edwards. He is also survived by three sisters, Gertrude "Bunni' Lintz, Helen Davis and Sue White.


Graveside services will be conducted at the Sinton Cemetery on Sunday, 

September 4, 2016 at 2:00PM Interment will follow.

Fidencio T. Guerrero, Sr., 88, passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at his home following a long illness. God called him home to rest, no more pain, no more suffering. He was born in Goliad, TX and had been a lifelong resident of Sinton.

 

A man of great compassion, love and caring for his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and those who knew him. From the moment of his life to the end, he always gave and shared his love and asked little for himself. He was so appreciative and proud of the care given to him by his children and immediate family during his illness.

 

He is preceded in death by his wife Julia Guerrero. Tony Kunitz, 93, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 15, 2016 following a short illness. Tony was born to Richard Kunitz, Sr. and Cecile Bomba Kunitz on December 25, 1922 in Sinton, Texas. He was a practicing Roman Catholic and attended Sinton High School, Texas A&M, College Station and Texas A&I Kingsville.

 

He married Joan Tollett of Berclair, Texas on April 2, 1956. He started welding at 18 years of age and started H&K Construction Company, Inc. in 1950 and H&K Vacuum Truck, Inc. from 1962-2004. Long hours and hard work were the guidelines on which Tony based his success for over 40 years in the pipeline construction industry. At one time H&K Construction Company, Inc. was considered one of the largest non-union pipeline construction companies in the world. In 1991, Tony retired but only on a part-time basis. Tony devoted his time to ranching, bird hunting and attending prize fights. Tony was unselfish and was known for his giving heart. Tony has been honored through the years for assisting many individuals, organizations and communities.

He was preceded in death by Richard and Cecile Kunitz, Dickie Kunitz, Col Maricielis Kunitz, Ralph Kunitz, Richard Kunitz Jr., Jon Kunitz, Jr., Rickie Kunitz, Agnes Liles, Chas and Nell Tollett and Mary Nell Rooke. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Joan Kunitz and faithful and beloved Paul Ohler and Nancy Wood, Cecil (Bill) Martin of Arlington, Bill (Annette) Liles of Georgetown, Mike (Kathy) Liles of Killeen, Dr. Richard Anthony (Elaine) Liles of Largo, Florida.

Funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:00PM Sunday, December 18, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Paul Rajareegam as celebrant. Private burial will follow at the Sinton Cemetery.

Ofelia Barrios Soto, 79, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016 following a long illness. She was born in Karnes City,Texas and had been a resident of Sinton for the past 45 years.

She was a housewife and was preceded in death by her husband, Reyes Cantu, Sr. and her brother, Amado Barrios. She is survived by her sons, Bernabe Gonzales, Jr. of Campbellton, Tx. and Magdaleno Gonzales of Beeville, her daughters, Norma Jean Lopez of Sinton and Duvelza Cantu of Corpus Christi, her brothers, Herminio Barrios, Jr. and Rogelio Barrios of Sinton and Manuel Barrios of Port Lavaca, her sisters, Marcela Silguero of Port Lavaca, Anita Sandoval of Sinton and Manuela Cantu of Three Rivers, 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Ruth Ybarra Lemos, 77, loving mother, grandmother and friend went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 27, 2016.


She was born in Harlingen, Texas on February 12, 1939 and had been a longtime resident of Sinton. She had been employed as a housekeeper for the Kelly family until her retirement.

 

She is preceded in death by her husband, Alejandro Lemos, Sr., her mother, Santos Leyva Ybarra, her son, Ruben Lemos, her brother, Juan Leyva, her sisters, Andrea Gonzales, Josefina Villarreal and Raquela Ojeda and her great grandson, Michael Reyes.

 

She is survived by her loving family, her sons, Alejandro (Mary) Lemos, Jr. of Three Rivers and Benito (Sandra) Lemos of Sinton, her daughters, Ruth Avila Padilla of Corpus Christi and Teresa Casas of Houston,

Jesus Jose Garcia, 70, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 28, 2017 following a sudden illness.

Jesus was born in Sinton,Texas on March 17, 1946 to Martin and Margarita Garcia. He had been a lifelong resident of Odem and had been employed as a mechanic until his retirement. He was a big Dallas Cowboys fan.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Margarita Garcia, his brothers, Juan Garcia and Jose Garcia and his daughter-in-law, Melinda Garcia.

Ricardo Guajardo, 64, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 2, 2017 following a long illness. Ricardo was born on June 22, 1952 in Beeville, Texas to Aurelio and Antonia Guajardo.

He had been a resident of Odem, Freeport and Beeville before moving to Corpus Christi. He had been employed as a trackman for the Union Pacific Railroad until his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his son Jason Guajardo and his sisters, Felecitas Barrientes and Irma Gloria Rodriguez.

Frances was a great Mom, a wonderful Grandmother and was loved by everyone. Charles W. Spencer, 82, passed away during the early morning of March 8, 2017 at Brookdale Northshore in Portland,Tx.


Charles was born May 6,1934 to Joe Weaver and Lena Wilson Spencer in Falfurrias,Tx. He lived in Sinton from the time he was in 2nd grade until 1978. It was then that he moved his family to Carrizo Springs. He and his wife, Lyn, also lived in West Columbia,Tyler and settling in Mathis about 1991 until his retirement in 2003.

 

He then moved to Portland in 2004 until his death. Charles was born into, raised and lived a strong Baptist faith. He served as a deacon in nearly every Baptist church he was a member of. He had put his life and trust on God's hands at a young age and never swayed from it Galations 2:20.

 

He graduated from Sinton High School in 1952. That's when he went to work full-time at Commercial State Bank. He started in the bookkeeping department and at the time of his retirement he was Sr. Vice
President. In 1954 he took a leave of absence from his job to enlist in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Japan for two years. He served for 3 1/2 years and was honorably discharged in 1957. He was one of the original members of the Sinton Lions Club and he was a Lion's Club member wherever he lived. Yet in Mathis he joined the Kiwanis Club. He was always a proud member of the communities he lived in and Charles was also known for his fairness and honesty.

 

Charles married Lyn Wolleson September 5, 1959. They demonstrated what a marriage means through sickness and health, richer or poorer until death do you part to their only child, Judy Lynne. They had a strong
marriage of 40 1/2 years until Lyn's passing in 2000.

 

Those waiting to welcome him to heaven are his wife, Lyn, grand-son, Charles William Stroman, his youngest sister, IIene Walker, nephew, Joe Weaver Spencer, parents, Joe Weaver and Lena Spencer, brother-in-law,Travis Wolleson.

 

Left here on earth to share his memories are his daughter, Judy Lynne (Leonard) Stroman, granddaughters,Tiffany Lynne (Max) Cochran, Shannon Kay Stroman, Emily Carroll (Cameron)

Luz Garcia Flores, 96, affectionately known as "Ama", passed away peacefully at home on March 28, 2017 with her loving family by her side. She was 96.

 

Luz was born on March 3, 1921 in Donna, Texas to Jose and Petra Garcia.She was a loving mother, grandmother, homemaker and long time resident of Sinton, Texas. In addition to raising their 8 children, she enjoyed gardening and playing bingo.

 

She is preceded in death by the love of her life, Icidro R. Flores, with whom she was married 67 years, her grandson, Guadalupe Gomez, Jr. and her great great grandson, Lalo Gallegos, brothers, Felix Garcia and David Garcia, sisters, Dora Garcia and Maria Montalvo.

 

Survivors include her sons, Icidro (Felipa) Flores, Jr., Jose G.(Juanita) Flores, Oscar (Rose) Flores, David (Mary B.) Montalvo and Jesus Flores; daughters, Dora (Victor) Olivo, Juanita F.Gomez and Silvia (Rick) Milligan; 23 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren,14 great great grandchildren.

Joe H. Ennis, 91, of Sinton,Texas went home to our loving Savior on Saturday, April 15,2017 at home surrounded by his loving family.

 

He was born March 16,1926 in Saltillo, Mississippi. He joined the Army/Air Corps in August of 1945 and he was a World War II Veteran. After leaving the military he moved to Corpus Christi where he met the love of his life, Frances Reddish Enis and devoted his love and life for 59 years. He made his home here in Sinton, working and raising his children for 59 years. He worked for San Patricio Electric Coop for 30 years retiring April 28,1988 as a Maintanence supervisor. He was a member of the Sinton Masonic Lodge #1012 serving as a Master Mason. He loved fishing but but most importantly his family and spending time with friends at Freddie's Steakhouse.

 

Joe is survived by his loving wife Frances, children, Diane McDowell Hardy of Sinton, Texas, Walter Gibson of Calallen, Texas, Brenda Prince of Norman, Oklahoma, Joe A.Enis of Sinton, Texas and Cynthia Enis Bray of Sinton, Texas, 12 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren and his beloved dog Pepper.

 

Joe is preceded in death by his mother, Modina Hinton of Shannon, MS, his brother,Turner White of Tupelo, MS, his grandson, Joseph Lee Gibson, Gerald E.Bray and daughter-in-law, Cathy Gibson.

Dorothy "Dot" Ann Willis, 91, was called home to our Father on Thursday, May 4, 2017.

Dot lived and died close to her family, friends and faith. Dot was born in Omaha, Nebraska

to William and Iliff Marie Maring. Dot married Sol Willis and had three children, Sol, Dottie 

and Christa Jane, two grandchildren, Christa and Tucker, six great grandchildren and four

great great grandchildren.

 

Dot was a devote Catholic and loved her parish family at Sacred Heart Church in Sinton. Dot was active in the church until health prevented her from being active. She was a member of Legion of Mary which she loved dearly.

 

Dot loved her horses and dogs and always found room for stray animals.

 

Dot is preceded in death by her husband, Sol, her parents and baby brother. A rosary will be prayed on

Frances E. Enis, 85, died June 24,2017 surrounded by her loving family. Frances was born

August 8,1931 in Buford, Georgia until moving to Corpus Christi, Texas where she worked and met the love of her life Joe and within months married and raised five beautiful children. Frances's joys were loving her family and grandchildren,playing bingo,working in her yard and cooking to please the family.

Mom knew no strangers. Frances and Joe were married 59 years. They lived, loved and will spend the rest of eternity together. She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Joe Enis,her mother, Cora Idell Colbert, brothers, Arcile Reddish, Waverly Reddish, Alton Reddish, sister, Melrose Hill, grandsons, Joseph Gibson, Gerald Bray and daughter-in-law, Cathy Gibson.

Pedro "Pete" Gonzales Sr., 72, went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 27, 2017. Pete was born and raised in Sinton, Texas where he resided all his life.  He attended catholic and public schools in Sinton. He also attended and graduated from Commonwealth College of Science in August 1970.

 

He was employed by Goodwin Funeral Home until becoming owner and operator of Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home in December 1977.

 

He was a former member of our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where he served as an usher, was a member of the Men's Club and was the head sponsor for the Altar boys for many years. He served for nine years on the Sinton School Board, served on the Sinton Municipal Golf Course Board and as Municipal Court Judge.  He also served on the City Council for 10 years, including five years as Mayor.  He was a dedicated and honest business owner, loving and caring boss, husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed playing golf and working on this ranch.  

Pete was preceded in death by his parents Adelaido "Ed" and Petra Gonzales, his brother Edward, sister Antonia and brother-in-law Elias.

He is survived by his loving family, his wife Janie, his sons Pete Gonzales Jr. of Columbia, Maryland & John (Velma) Gonzales of Sinton, Tx, his daughters Dianne (Dennis) Myers & Christy (Jacob) Segovia of Sinton, his grandchildren Joshua, Jonathan, Amanda, Samantha, Dennis, Madison, Carol, John Jr., & Dahvy, nephews Hector Gomez, Pedro Gonzales and Elias Noriega Jr and many cousins and friends.

On January 25, 2018, Helen Beatrice Hunt Johnson left her earthly home on Angel's wings to begin her journey to the presence of our Heavenly Father where, as a child of God, she will dwell forevermore without pain or sorrow.

She was born April 9, 1920 near Mathis, Tx to Samuel Franklin Hunt and Beatrice Anderson Hunt. The family moved to Sinton, Tx on January 1, 1923 when her father began his long-time service as Sheriff of San Patricio Co. For many years their home was in the upstairs living quarters of the county jail which was a memorable experience for young children. As a teenager she professed her faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and was baptized in the First Baptist Church in Sinton, Tx.

In 1940 she married Robert Nelson Johnson in Morgan City, La where he had been transferred by Plymouth Oil Co. In 1942 they returned to Sinton where they lived for the remainder of their lives. In 1953 they adopted their beloved daughter Joanna. Through the years they spent many days and nights traversing the sand and shell beaches of Mustang and Padres Islands in their various Jeeps.

Helen (lovingly called "Hedy" by her family) graduated from Sinton High School in 1937 where she was a charter member of the National Honor Society. In 2012 she and three other charter members where honored on the 75th anniversary of that organization. She was a Rainbow Girl, member of the Sinton and Portland Order of the Eastern Star, charter member of the San Pat County Historical Commission, member of the San Pat Country Library Board and Sinton Public Library Board. She worked many years as Executive Secretary for Plymouth Oil Co. in Sinton. 

Hedy was a painter in oils and enjoyed donating her paintings to various organizations for fundraising. She was involved in the painting of the historical murals at Jackson Square in Sinton in 1976. She twice assisted in complete restorations of these murals and continued to maintain them until she could no longer climb ladders. 

Hedy was the matriarch of the Hunt family and extended family. She was a caregiver to several family members during their times of need. She considered helping others a blessing and her true calling in life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and daughter. Also by four brothers (Sam, Jerry, Lewis and Bobby) and sister (Janie) and four nieces and nephews. She is survived by 10 nieces and nephews and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dear friend and companion Perfecta Cordova and her little rescue dog Grace Kelly.

A memorial service will be held at 1 PM Monday, January 29, 2018 at the First Baptist Church.

Those who wish to do so may make memorial donations to the Al-Amin Shrine Temple, Children's Burn Hospital (Galveston, Tx) or any pet adoption agency.

Edmund Jerome Mokry, was born June 13, 1935 to Steve and Vlasta (Polasek) Mokry in Corpus Christi, Texas. He attended Sundeen High School and entered the US Army in 1955 where he was in the Honor Guard. He married Elizabeth Josephine Koliba on September 17, 1960 and he was a farmer his whole life. He passed away peacefully in his sleep early on Wednesday, February 21, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Mokry of Sinton, his children, Florence MacNary of Austin, married to Reynolds MacNary, children, Lauren and Elizabeth, Michael Mokry of Sinton, special friends, Mendy Vickers and Kassity Johnson, children, Melissa Garza, Kayla Bennett and Dillon Mokry, Barbara Moss of Austin, married to David Moss, children, Lyle and Ella, Martin Mokry of San Antonio, married to Ginger (Lopez) Mokry, child, Megan and special friend Jason Arocha, Ernest Mokry of Magnolia married to Gina (Evans) Mokry, children, Laylon, Audrey and Averey. He was faithful to his family, faithful that crops would always grow, and faithful in God. His favorite past time was playing dominoes with his friends and grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Steve and Vlasta, his brothers, Steve Mokry, Louis Mokry and Gary Mokry. He is survived by his siblings Loraine Nemec and Catherine Mokry of Corpus Christi, Leona Williams of Kerrville, Tim J. John Richard Kuehler, 89, of Castroville, passed away April 4, 2018. 

He was born to the late John and Eunice Kuehler, on June 20, 1928 in Groom, TX. After some adventurous years of bachelorhood, including a trip to Alaska, Richard married Kathleen Steineman in 1963, and they were long-time residents of Sinton, TX. Richard was a master mechanic and owner of Richard’s Garage in Sinton for many years. He was also an active member of the Independent Garagemen’s Association of Texas. Richard was as honest as he was competent as a mechanic, helping many area farmers and families during their times of need. Richard was also an avid, semi-professional photographer and captured many weddings and other significant memories for area residents.

When he wasn’t fixing cars or taking photos, he enjoyed camping, watching car races, speaking on amateur radio, and talking politics.

Richard is preceded in death by his wife Kathleen. He is survived by his son John Kuehler and his wife Katerina of Cortlandt Manor, NY; daughters Gretchen and Theresa Kuehler of San Antonio; daughter Charlotte Weilacher and her husband JR of Poquoson, VA, and daughter Sandra Boenig and her husband Chris of Uvalde, TX. He also is survived by five grandchildren.


Visitation and rosary will be held at 7 PM Friday, April 13 at Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home in Sinton. A funeral mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church on Saturday at 10 AM. Following mass, Richard will be laid to rest next to Kathleen at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Refugio, TX.

Ira Higginbotham, Jr, of Kingsville, passed away June 14, 2018, at the age of 75.  He was born November 13, 1942, to Ira and Jewel Margaret Simons Higginbotham. He was a 1962 graduate of Henrietta M. King High School in Kingsville, and he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master of Science in Range and Wildlife Management, both from Texas A&I University. Ira worked in public education in Texas, with the Co-operative Extension Service through the University of Arizona, and in the private sector in irrigation and landscaping. He was an avid outdoorsman, and fishing and dancing were among his passions. He was predeceased by his parents and is survived by the love of his life, Rosalie Roy of Portland; sons Benjamin (Sue) Higginbotham of Jonesborough, TN, and Joseph Higginbotham of Humble, TX; and a daughter, Jan Elizabeth (Leighton) Stovall of Dumas, TX.  His grandchildren are Elizabeth (Zachary) Carter of Houston; Hannah, Katherine, and Grace Higginbotham of Jonesborough, TN; Jennifer Mokshefsky and Jonathan Higginbotham of Humble; and Zachary, Caleb and Sarah Stovall of Dumas. Juan Gomez Martinez, age 68, of Odem, Texas passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 surrounded by family and friends. He was born to Solio and Isabel Martinez on January 15, 1950. He lived life to the fullest every day with his loving wife and family. He enjoyed doing mechanic work, scratching his lottery tickets and taking care of his three grandchildren, Jayden, Caleb and Julie that he loved as his own. One of Sister Icephene's favorite scriptures was the 23rd Psalm .On August 8,2018 the Lord made a very special selection for his "Heavenly Garden" as he plucked a precious, very loved and dedicated flower, Icephene M. Davis and gave her eternal rest. Icephene was born February 23, 1937 on Goshan, Alabama to Mrs. Flourance Rouse. She was one of eight children which have all preceded her in death. She accepted the Lord as her personal savior and was baptised at an early age. In 1969 the Lord joined Icephene M. and Tommy L.Davis in Holy Matrimony. Allen Roger Mutchler, Sr., 82, of Taft, Texas passed away in his sleep on Thursday, September 27, 2018. Allen was born on January 7, 1936 to Angela Bartosch Mutchler and Godfried Joseph Mutchler, north of Taft on the family farm. Allen was the third of six children. Allen was a lifelong farmer and rancher in the San Patricio, Bee and Calhoun Counties farming sorghum, cotton, corn and cattle. Allen was a Taft High School graduate excelling in football and track. After high school Allen married Vivian Crane Mutchler, and they had four children. Allen was a member of the Taft Jaycees. Allen was proceeded in death by his parents, Fred and Angela, his sister, Dorothy, his brothers, Melvin and Harold, and his son-in-law Timothy Schilhab. Allen is survived by his children, Vicky Schilhab of Conroe, Allen Roger Mutchler, Jr. ( Teri ) of Sandia, Lori Keeney ( Chris ) and John David Mutchler ( Betsy ) all of Taft. Allen is also survived by his brothers, Kenneth ( Valerie ) Mutchler and Joseph ( Janey ) Mutchler all of Taft. Allen is also survived by nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Roberto had been employed as a heavy equipment operator for K. F. Hunt until his retirement. He loved fishing as much as he loved his Dallas Cowboys. He worked all his life to provide for his family. Guadalupe O.Morin, age 91, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 4, 2018. She currently lived in Sinton with her daughter Nina, but was a longtime resident of Edroy, Texas. She was born September 18, 1927 in Kenedy, Texas to Eluterio and Christina F. Olmeda which preceded her in death. She married Juan Morin on August 1945. She had 13 children, one died as an infant and raised eight sons and four daughters in Edroy, Texas, where she resided most of her life. She was a passionate quilt maker and loved quilting blankets for her grandchildren. She cherished her time with family and enjoyed outings to boutiques and restaurants. She was strong in her faith and she would bestow a blessing upon her children and grandchildren as they were leaving from visiting her. She is
preceded in death by her husband, Juan Morin, Sr., sons, Blas Morin (infant), Ruben Morin, Steve Morin and Lupio Morin, one beloved granddaughter, Lori Morin, her sister, Carolina Marroquin and her brother, Elias Olmeda. She is preceded in death by her husband Dionicio Martinez, two sons, Alonzo and Gonzalo, one daughter Oralia, three grandsons, Freddy Martinez, Omar Martinez and Hector Garza, Jr., and one granddaughter, Gracie Castillo. Treva Lavel Vickers of Anderson, Texas passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2019 in San Antonio, Texas where she resided for the past two years. Treva was born October 2, 1928 in Electra, Texas to Leland and Julia Lane and grew up in Burkburnett, Texas. After graduating from high school, she moved to Corpus Christi, Texas where she met her husband Warren T. "Buddy" Vickers.Buddy and Treva married November 10, 1946 and had four children. They lived in south Texas farming and ranching until they moved to Anderson in 2004 where they continued ranching. Treva was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 69 years, Buddy Vickers, a son, Bub Warren Vickers, grandson, Robert Mitchell "Buc" Vickers, three sisters and one brother. Survivors include a son, Bob Vickers and wife Amy of Mason, daughter Judy Segers and husband Jim of Anderson and daughter Cherry Ethridge and husband Neal of Goliad, 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.Visitation will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 from 12 PM to 1 PM at Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home. Thomas "Tommy" Daniel Pluss, died of heart

complications on Friday, October 2, 2015.

 

Tommy was born on January 22, 1958 in Sinton, Texas to Dave and Jeanne Pluss both of whom preceded him in death. He is also

preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lynn Pluss and his infant brother, Michael David Pluss. 

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Barbara Hovey Pluss, his brother, Max Pluss and wife Penny, his mother­ in­-law, Peggy

Seagrist, numerous nieces and nephews and his pet cat, Bay B Gurl.

 

Tommy loved sports and worked for Centurion Pipeline as a construction manager. Tommy loved his job and considered the people he worked with like family and likewise.

 

Tommy was a good man and will be dearly missed by all. A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, October 8, 2015 at the Sinton Community Center, 1300 E. Sinton, with interment to follow at

Victor Mendez Diaz,Sr., 83, went to be with our Lord , Sunday, November 29, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was
retired from the City of Sinton.

 

Victor was a veteran of the Korean War where he earned several medals. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Victor was born November 18,1932 in Sinton to Juan and Narcisa Diaz.

 

He was a loving devoted father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Victor goes home to our Lord to be reunited with his wife, Leonor, his son,Victor Diaz,Jr., his parents, brothers, Jose and Juan Diaz and sister, Olivia Castillo.

 

He is survived by his daughters, Blanca (Eugene) Gonzalez, Nelda Sanchez and Vickie (Sterling) Dunlap all of Sinton. He was blessed and loved by his grandchildren, Priscilla Diaz, Jaime Cruz, Buddy Sanchez, Eugene Gonzalez, Jr., Christina Hernandez, Skipper Sanchez, Brandon Dunlap, Roy Sanchez, Robert Dunlap, Jennifer Dunlap and

Paroda Deitch, late in the night of January 7, 2016, our dear Lord welcomed Paroda Deitch, 88, into heaven. Close by in the welcoming party were her husband of almost 50 years, Dr. Ernie Deitch, her daughter Julie Deitch Durham, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

 

Though her family and friends will greatly miss her earthly presence, they know that Paroda lived a wonderful life, touching many souls in the process.

 

Paroda Ann was born on July 19,1927, in Ottumwa, Iowa to James C.and Lillian Simpson. She married Ernest R.Deitch and was his constant helpmate as he finished medical school, military service stationed in Austin,Texas and began family practice medicine in Sinton,Texas in 1952. In subsequent years, she often served as office manager for the Sinton Hospital & Clinic, while raising two daughters and one son.

 

For many years, she also provided support and leadership for the growth and development of the Sinton Public Library. In the
last 20 years she has been especially dedicated to the 1st United Methodist Church in Sinton, where she worked to establish a local RX program which assists needy individuals in receiving medicines they cannot afford.

 

She is survived by her daughter Jane Deitch Armstrong (Jim) of Bryan and son Jim Deitch of New Braunfels; 5 grandchildren
Kati Deitch in Lubbock, Elizabeth Deitch in Midland, Regan Durham, Laura Jane & Ethan Durham all of College Station;
a sister, Jean Corrigan in Waukee, Iowa as well as numerous nieces and nephews spread across many states.

 

The family will receive friends from 6:00PM to 8:00PM at the Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home on Monday, January 11, 2016. A celebration of her life will be held at 1st United Methodist Church, Sinton, Texas on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at

Alyce Dean Maley, left this world to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 27, 2016 at her home in Rockport. She was born on November 26, 1931 in Johnson City, Texas to Fields Martin Bradshaw and Jessie Jewel Webb Bradshaw.

 

She was the last of five children in the family. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters and a daughter and her parents. Alyce was a star basketball player for the Johnson City Eagles High School girls basketball team. Part of her high school education was spent in Boerne, Texas and she was presented with class rings from both schools.

 

After graduation she wanted to travel and see the world. She worked part time during and after school for Walgreens drugstores in San Antonio. She took a job selling books and encyclopedias traveling all over the

country. In 1950 she met and married Derrald Gordon in Boise, Idaho and they had two daughters and a son. They

traveled together before coming back to Texas and settling in Corpus Christi because of her experience selling

encyclopedias, she secured a job as manager over the book department for Sears-Roebuck in Corpus Christi.

 

Her husband Derrald passed away in 1982. In the spring of 1983 she met and later married John David Maley. They lived

in Corpus Christi until his retirement from the Corpus Christi Army Depot in 1993. They sold their home in Corpus

Christi and moved to Rockport on the water with their own private pier.

 

Alyce loved to fish, go dancing and play penny-anti poker and  she and her husband David spent many hours fishing on their pier. In later years, her health declined so she could no longer enjoy her pastimes. She is survived by her husband, David, a daughter,Ronda Kay (Kenneth) Allen of New Bern, North Carolina, a son Steven C.(Biddie) Gordon of Mission,Texas, 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 10:00AM Monday, February 1, 2016 at the Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home 120 S.McCall in Sinton for public viewing and 6:00PM to 8:00PM Monday evening for the family and friends.

 

Funeral services will be conducted at the First United Methodist Church in Sinton at 10:00AM Tuesday, February 2, 2016 with Pastor Rosie Gratten officiating.

Mary Hellen Deanda, 69, loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 16, 2016.

 

Mary Helen was born on April 1, 1946 in Sinton, Texas to Jose Cruz Sr. and Maria Gonzales. She was raised in Sinton and she was a homemaker.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Alicia Gonzales Perez and her niece Dina Hinojosa Ramos.

 

She is survived by her loving family, her sons, Steven Deanda of Allen, Texas, Robert Deanda of Frisco, Texas and Michael Deanda of Little Elm, Texas, her brothers, Cruz Gonzales of Rowlett, Texas, Gilbert Gonzales of Sinton and Joe Lee Gonzales of Rowlett, Texas, her sisters, Grace Gonzales Chapa of Sinton and Alma Gonzales Lopez of Karnes City, Texas and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Santiago Serna. William Franklin (Bill) McDaniel,, 83, went to be with his Lord on March 15, 2016 with his family at his side.

 

Bill was born September 9, 1932 in Kingsville,Texas to Thomas Luther McDaniel and Adeline Falvella McDaniel. He and his older brother were raised by their mother and stepfather, Frank Slezinsky, Jr.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother,Thomas Lee McDaniel, nephew Thomas Neil McDaniel and sister-in-law Billye Loyce McDaniel.

 

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sue; daughter Laurie Collins and husband Chris of Houston, daughter Leslie Martin and husband Bob of Plano and son Patrick McDaniel and wife Stephanie of Sinton; seven grandchildren: Allie Martin of Austin, Trey Martin of Dallas, Rachel Collins, Amanda Collins and Matt Collins all of Houston,Wesley McDaniel and Nolan McDaniel of Sinton, nephew Jack McDaniel, niece Katy McDaniel and sister-in-law Jean Prejean all of Kingsville; cousins and many friends.

 

During his early school years, Bill was known as "Billy Frank". Following graduation from Henrietta M.King High School, he served in the United States Air Force for four years. On September 18,1954 he married Elizabeth Sue Elsik, his high school sweetheart. Theirs was a special relationship that will surely reach beyond this temporary separation.

 

After his discharge from the military, Bill attended Texas A & I College where he received a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and a Master of Science in Education. In 1957 he was hired as a science teacher in Sinton. He served the students and teachers of Sinton ISD for 35 years as a teacher, counselor, principal and and assistant superintendent.Following his retirement from SISD he enjoyed a career in real estate. Bill was a "people person" and his friendliness and sense of integrity contributed to successful careers in both education and real estate. He was a dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church of Sinton where he served in many capacities.He was also a long-time member of the Sinton Kiwanis Club. Being a loyal Sinton Pirate fan was a joy. He loved hunting, fishing, construction, ranching, his church and his friends. But most of all, he loved his family and was a devoted husband,father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed.The family would like to thank the staffs of Angel Bright Hospice and Visiting Angels for their loving care during his last days. A memorial service of celebration will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Sinton on Saturday, March 19 at 11:00AM with Pastor Rosie Grattan officiating.Memorials may be made to Sinton FUMC or to a charity of choice.

Alonzo L. Franco, 93, loving father and grandfather, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday,

May 17, 2016.

 

Alonzo was born on October 30,1922 in Kenedy, Texas to Pablo and Estefana Franco and had been a lifelong resident of the Sinton and St.Paul area. He had been employed as a farmer,carpenter and trucker.

 

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dominga Franco, beloved daughter, Grabiela Martinez and his siblings, Alberto and Apolonio Franco,
Ramona Gutierrez, Tomasita Montemayor and Lupe Pastrano.

He is survived by his loving family, his sons, Alonzo 
(Yolanda) Franco, Jr., Pablo E.(Diana) Franco and Domingo Franco of Sinton, his daughters, Estefana (Ernest) Contreras of Refugio, Esmeralda (Esteban) Castillo and Silvia (Michael) Mejias of Sinton, also by his grandson who he raised as his own, Marcos Moreno of Sinton, his brother, Pablo L.Franco, Jr. of Corpus Christi, 13 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

Wanda Ann Moss, 85, of Edna (formerly Sinton), died Sunday, July 31, 2016. She was born December 22,1930 in Arkansas, to the late Frank

Smith and Era Cummings.

 

She was a co-owner of Moss Line Construction and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She was a dedicated homemaker, having her greatest joy come when she could prepare a home cooked meal for her family and friends. She loved gardening, sewing, painting ceramics and writing poetry....a gift not many knew she had.

 

She was a very giving and kind person requiring nothing in return. She was the strongest, most independent woman with the most sincere heart. ”No” was not a word in her vocabulary.

 

She is survived by her daughter, JoAnn (Lee) Whitehead of Sinton, her grandchildren, Michael (Rosie) Whitehead of Goliad, Billy (Tanya) Whitehead of Corpus Christi, W.D. (Brenda) Whitehead of Sinton, Sami Moss of Allen, Brian (Karen) Moss of Rockwall, Jim (Toni) Moss of Victoria and Kim (Wesley) McGuffin of Katy and 17 great grandchildren.

Eric Michael Hoverson, age 37, passed away on July 29, 2016 in Corpus Christi,Texas. Eric was born on June 8,1979 in Harlingen,Texas. He was a 1997 graduate of Odem High School and a beloved member of the community.

 

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Richard and Ruby Hoverson of La Feria,Texas and his maternal
grandparents Frazier and Marjorie Treadaway of Victoria,Texas and his uncle Richard Treadaway.

Helen Anna Richter, 91,  died August 14,2016. Now with the Lord, she has rejoined her beloved husband, Paul, who predeceased her four years ago. Helen was born on July 12, 1925, in Taylor, Texas, to Albert and Ludmila Gola. Helen was an active member of Sacred Heart Church. She enjoyed being involved in all of the church's fundraisers, funeral dinners, and served on the Parish Council.

 

Helen especially loved working on the beautiful quilts made by the Sacred Heart Quilting club until her health prevented her from participating anymore. Besisdes quilting, Helen loved reading, gardening, playing Bunco and dominoes.

 

Helen goes home to the Lord to reunite with her Husband, Paul; son, Henry Lee; grandson, Aron Allan; and parents, Albert Gola, and Henry and Ludmila Michalik. Helen leaves behind to cherish her memories one daughter, Patricia Olson of Corpus Christi; three sons Richard Richter of Corpus Christi; Charles Richter (Penny) of Mathis; Randal Richter (Sabina) of Sinton; seven grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and her beloved "Kitties", Skillet, Nubbin, and Big Boy.

 

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Adam Richter, Kevin Olson, Bryan Richter, Randal Richter, Richard Richter, III, and Jason Smith. Helen's family would like to express our deepest gratitude to all her caregivers, Chaplain Tim Henson, and New Century Hospice who mimistered to our mother in her final years. Their compassion and concern were blessings to all involved.

Noe Garcia Cassnova, 84, of Sinton,Texas passed away Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at his home.

 

Noe was born February 8,1932 in Skidmore,Texas to Arturo Casanova and Mariana Garcia. For 39 years Noe was employed as a manager for Cavitt Hardware, a hardware store located in Sinton,Texas. After retirement he took part-time employment as a carrier for Commercial State Bank.

 

He very much enjoyed joking with each and every individual whom crossed his path. His life's enjoyment was his family. Noe is survived by his three sons, Rafael Casanova, (Susan Cooks), Arturo Casanova (Yolanda Gutierrez), Noe Casanova,Jr.(Mary Jane Casanova), his four daughters, JoAnn Casanova, Margarita Luna (Hank Luna), Iris Zepeda (Christopher Zepeda) and Christina Rivera (Ramsey Rivera) and his wife Anna Maria Abrego Casanova,15 grandchildren, his sisters, Maria Elena Montelongo (BaldemarMontelongo), Elogia Alvarez (the late Tony Alvarez) and Minerva Moreno (Joe Moreno) and several nieces and nephews. Eligio G.Blanco, Jr., 73, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 15, 2016 following

a short illness.

He was born in Sinton to Eligio and Fidela Blanco, Sr. He had resided in Odem until moving to Houston in 1980 and had been employed as a fiberglass pool repairman. He is preceded in death by his wife, Petra Rodriguez Blanco, his son, Eligio Blanco, III, his parents, Eligio and Fidela Blanco, Sr., his sisters, Adelita Nino and Maria Perez.

Florence "Sis" Duhart, Sr., 102, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 12, 2016 following a long illness. She was born in Floresville,Texas on August 2, 1914.

 

She had resided in Corpus Christi where she had been employed as a housekeeper for Spohn Hospital until her retirement. She moved to Sinton and had moved back to Corpus Christi about fifteen years ago.

 

She is survived by her loving family, her sons, Tommy Green of Corpus Christi and Raymond Green of
Los Angeles, California, her daughter, Tillie Faye Green of Compton, California, her sister, Eddie Mae Stephens of Sinton, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Jesusita was born on September 23, 1933 in Odem, Texas. She was a lifelong resident of Odem and was a devoted catholic member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mauro Adamez, her siblings, Maria Gomez, Felipe Acevedo, Maximo Acevedo and Guadalupe

Ginger Twist Stone, 59, passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2016 following a long illness. She was born on March 10, 1957 in Sinton, Texas to Van and Ruby Twist.

 

She had resided in Sinton until moving to Elgin, Texas in 1979. She had been employed as an administrative associate for UT Austin.

 

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Stone of Elgin, Tx, her sons, Hunter Stone of Elgin, Tx and Justice Stone of Corpus Christi,Tx, her granddaughter, Hailey Stone and her brother, Jesse Twist of Corpus Christi,Tx.

Juan Martinez, Jr., 48, a longtime resident of Odem,Texas made his way to heaven on Friday, the 3rd of February 2017 at 6:28PM surrounded by family and friends.

 

Juan was born December 20, 1968 in Sinton,Texas to Juan and Lydia Martinez. He is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Reynaldo Nieto Lopez, 78, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 following a short illness.

 

Reynaldo was a devout Catholic and his faith was very important to him. He was a retired truck driver with a passion for dogs, having been employed by DeSoto Petroleum for sixteen years, Mission Petroleum for fifteen years and Superior Crude Oil for three years.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Juan and Teresa Lopez.

 

He is survived by his family, his wife of 47 years, Olivia O.Lopez of Odem, his sons, Ray (Maria) Lopez of Odem and Gary (Rick) Lopez Wiltshire of Ingleside, his daughters, Yolanda (Patrick) Lopez Rettew of Laguna Niguel, California and Belinda Lopez Ware of Texas City, Texas, his brothers, Alfredo Lopez and Esequiel Lopez of Mathis and Juan Lopez of Corpus Christi, his sister, Susie Sendejo of Corsicana, Texas, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Manuel S. Rivera, 80was called home on Sunday, March 26, 2017 where he was greeted at the gates of
heaven by his son Cristobal, who preceded him in death. Manuel was born on September 21,1936 in Taft,Texas to Porfirio and Flora Saenz Rivera. His mom passed when Manuel was very young, and he was later raised by his loving step-mother, Juanita.

 

He had 11 siblings; Leonardo, Arnulfo, Angelina, Eduardo, Alfredo, Ruben, Javier, Leticia, Roberto, Andres and Michael

 

He attended schools in Taft and later served in the U.S.Army for two years. He married the love of his life, Elida Ortiz of Sinton on December 26,1958. Manuel worked in the auto parts business for over 40 years and later at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church until he retired in 2012. He was a very quiet, humble and kind man, as well as a dedicated Dallas Cowboys fan.

He leaves behind to continue his love and legacy his devoted wife Elida, daughter, Flora Trujillo (Benito)

Ofelia Barrera Dominguez, 85, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 27, 2017 following a long illness.

 

Ofilia was born in Reynosa, Mexico and came to the United States at the age of five and made her residence in Edroy where she was a lifelong resident. She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she was a member of the Guadalupanas. One of her favorite pastimes was playing Bingo.

 

She is survived by her loving family, her sons, Alberto Dominguez of Corpus Christi, Carlos Dominguez, Jr. of Odem, Rene Dominguez of Pasadena, Daniel Dominguez and Jaime Dominguez of Odem and Benjamin Dominguez of New Braunfels, her daughter, Noelia Lopez of Robstown, her brothers, Felix Barrera, Jr. of Edroy, Epifanio Barrera and Rogelio Barrera of Corpus Christi and Frank Barrera of
California, her sisters, Ofelia Dominguez of Edroy and Guadalupe Gaona of Wyoming, 22 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

Arah Sue Roth, was larger than life. She was born in Corpus Christi,Texas on July 31,1946 and passed away Easter Sunday from a year long battle with cancer April 16, 2017.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry Roth. What an amazing gift she passed into the arms of Jesus on the very day we celebrate His victory over death. She was a proud
member of the Daughter's of the Republic of Texas and had a love for family, friends, neighbor's children, animals,  quilting and knives.

 

She is survived by her two daughters, Sheila Roth Carter (Michael Carter) and Sherry Roth Elshaug, (Aaron Elshaug)  four grandchildren, Raquel Gage, Matthew Carter, Bjorn Elshaug and Ingrid Elshaug and one great granddaughter, Isla Gage.

 

She was very much loved and will be greatly missed.May she rest in peace.

Robert Glenn Barlow, 49, of Odem, Texas peacefully rests on the 7th of May 2017 while at home surrounded by his loving family.

 

Glenn, a UXO technician at Ft. Ord, California by trade, enjoyed the challenging, detailed oriented career of disposing of unexploded ordinance and was well respected among his peers - he will never have to prove his valor in any other way.

 

Glenn was a dedicated son, a loyal brother and loving father and is survived by his daughters Mikaela and Hannah Barlow; his parents Robert and Frances Barlow, his sisters Susie Van Winkle and Tiffany Newman, his brother Michael York, nieces Deedra, Jesica, Chelsea, Cianna and nephew Bryant - he will never have to demonstrate his love in any other way.

Ruth Frances Vanecek Valenta, 86, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 in Corpus Christi,Texas. Ruth was born on June 5,1930 in Granger, Texas and married Adolph Valenta on October 12, 1949 in Sinton,Texas.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Adolph Joseph Valenta, her father, Peter Paul Vanecek and her mother, Albina Marek Vanecek.

 

She retired after working for San Patricio County for 30 years, where she served as secretary to the county judge. She was a skilled seamstress who sewed many of her own clothes. She will be remembered for making beautiful quilts that are treasured by her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing with her family and loved pan-fried catfish. She enjoyed cooking and eating the doves her sons hunted. She will also be remembered as a sweet, gentle and kind person who was loved by her many nieces and nephews.

Alex Maurice Smith, was born on May 25,1935 in Sinton, Texas to the late James Smith and

Alvera Wright. Maurice was a faithful member of Zion Fair Baptist Church and was the

Superintendent of the Sunday School.

 

He did a lot of work to the church. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Virginia Mae Smith,

his brother, A.B.Valdez, three sisters,Verna Mae Taylor, Janette Taylor and Carolyn Brasfield Oliver.

 

He is survived by his brother, Rev.James T. (Gloria) Smith of San Antonio, his granddaughter, Tiffany Lopez, special friends, Donnie and Barbara Davis and Charleston "Chad" Bess.Numerous nephews, nieces, family and friends.

Lilly Perez went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday ,December 22 2017.She was born on

September 2,1930 in Karnes City ,Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents Jose and

Leonora Castillo. Lilly leaves behind to cherish her memories a sister, Louisa Beltran, a son,Jose

Armando Perez,daughters, Maria (Eusebio) Galvan,Esmeralda (Gary) Gelinas and Angie (Homer)

Roblez. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and

nephews. Lilly was a homemaker all of her life and a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic

Church in Sinton. She was cherished by all her family and friends who loved her dearly. She will

be greatly missed. Visitation was held on Monday ,December 25 ,2017 at 4 PM with a holy rosary

recited at 7 PM. The funeral mass with rites of Christian burial was celebrated December 26 ,2017

at 2:30 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with Father Peter Elizardo as celebrant.

Ivan F. Psencik , 94, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2017 in a Portland, TX Care Center following a long illness. He
was born in Smithville, Texas on May 7, 1923. He graduated from Smithville High School in 1941. He served in the
United States Army Air Force from 1943-1945. He married Beatrice M. Nink in 1947 and together raised four children
from 1950-1976 when the youngest went to college. They were together until her death in 2010. They had been residents of Sinton for 60 years where he carried on and completed a 29 year career with United Gas (Entex/CenterPoint) as a gas utility serviceman. He was preceded in death by his wife Beatrice (Nink), parents RC
& Albina (Svec) Psencik, his brother Ernest (Bo) and his sisters and brother-in-laws Olga & Steve Sablatura, Lillian &
Bob Lievens and Francis & Madison Sowder. He is survived by his three sons: Michael Psencik and wife Jeanne of

Georgia Agnes Martinka Schmidt, 91, went to her heavenly home with the Lord on Saturday, January 13, 2018. She was born on January 8, 1927 in rural West St.Paul, San Patricio County, Texas to Peter Martinka and Mary Anna Krchnak. Georgia was born to a large Catholic Czech farming family. The Martinka, Vanecek and Rozypal Families moved to San Patricio County from Williamson County in the mid 1920's.Georgia started school in 1933 at the Miculastic School, a rural country school located about 5 miles west of St.Paul. Georgia spent several years in Vattman near Riviera living with her eldest sister Lillie and attended Vattman School. The family endured the hardships of the Great Depression. Georgia graduated from Sinton High School in 1946. Following graduation after WWII, she helped with the family and farm. Georgia married William Schmidt in 1947 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sinton. They met after the war at a Catholic Youth Dance in San Patricio. Shortly after their wedding, they purchased a farm from Georgia's cousin, George Vanecek, and made it their homestead for 71 years. Georgia worked tirelessly to turn the homestead into a home and she and William raised nine children on the farm. Later in life, the two enjoyed spending time there with their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Georgia also assisted William during his agricultural career engaging in the production of hogs, cattle, hay, silage, vegetables, cotton and grain. They were innovative farmers in the forefront of activities such as irrigation, custom grain harvesting and vegetable production. In 1972, Georgia and William took over operation of Pete's Place and after a fire in 1974, rebuilt the establishment as Schmidt's Country Store, which they operated until their retirements in 2007 at the age of 80. Georgia was known as a friendly, caring, loving and helpful person. Everyone was a friend. She enjoyed painting, dancing, dominoes, canning, cooking and especially, family life on the farm. As a lifelong Catholic, she was diligent in her service to the Catholic Church. For many years, Georgia was the Schmidt Family matriarch and loved spending time with her large family. She was a member of the Greatest Generation, weathered the Great Depression and World War II, lived her whole life on a farm and exemplified the American Dream. But above all, she served her Lord, Jesus Christ. She is preceded in death by her parents. Peter and Mary Martinka, husband, William Schmidt, sisters, Lillie, Theresa, and Bernice, brothers. Paul, Rudy and Lewis and son, Randy. She was the last member of a family generation that included 110 first cousins. She is survived by daughters, Mandy (Gwynn) Senf of Sinton, Macy (David) Culpepper of Sinton, sons, William III (Gayle) of Richmond, Texas, Louis (Carol) of Tuleta, Texas, David of West St.Paul, Allan of West St.Paul, Lawrence (Loretta) of Ardmore, OK and Robert (Robin) of Sinton. She is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 2
great-great-grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and friends. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Joan Winsauer of Odem. Melvin Charles Mutchler, 80, of Taft, TX passed away Thursday, February 15, 2018 to be with our Lord and Savior. Melvin was born on November 8, 1937 to Angela Bartosch Mutchler and Godfried Joseph Mutchler north of Taft on their family farm. Melvin was the fourth of six children. Melvin was a lifelong farmer and rancher in San Patricio, Bee, and Calhoun Counties farming sorghum, cotton, corn, rice, and his ultimate love for his Brangus cow-calf operation. Melvin was doing what he loved best - working his cattle when the Lord called him home. All who knew Melvin appreciated his candor, quick wit, and ability to tell it like it is. Melvin was a huge proponent of production agriculture, investing in tomorrow's Ag producers and leaders with organizations including the Taft FFA, Taft 4-H Club, San Patricio and Aransas County A&H Shows and the Brazos County Youth Livestock Show. Melvin attended Taft High School and was extremely competitive in sports, playing football, running track, and competing in the discus and shotput field events. Melvin learned at an early age the importance of a good work ethic, responsibility and sustainable agriculture on his family farm. He woke up early every morning to milk cows before going to school, harvested their own livestock for food, and working cattle. He enjoyed leading the Sinton parades on horseback carrying the Texas flag with his wife and Parade Marshall, Ada Lee, carrying the American flag. As a young man, Melvin enjoyed water skiing on Mathis Lake, and loved going dancing all around South Texas. Melvin met the love of his life, Ada Lee Hill, and they were married on March 2, 1963 in Sinton, TX at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Melvin and Ada Lee loved to travel to dances, take in new sights, work cattle and ride horses together. Melvin was a lifelong member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Taft, TX. Melvin is survived by his wife of nearly 55 years, Ada Lee Hill Mutchler of Taft, his daughter Lisa Mutchler of College Station, TX, son Monte Mutchler and wife Laura of Bartlett, TN. Melvin was the proudest of grandfathers when it came to his granddaughters. He is survived by granddaughters Alexis and Alyssa Roach of College Station, TX and Charlotte and Molly Mutchler of Bartlett, TN. Melvin is also survived by his three brothers, Allen Mutchler, Joe (Janey) Mutchler, and Kenny (Valerie) Mutchler all of Taft, and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Melvin was proceeded in death by his parents, Fred and Angela, his sister Dorothy Mutchler Threadgill of Taft, and brother Harold Mutchler of Port Lavaca.

Mary Agnes Fojtik Cabla

Mary was born in Jarrell, Texas on March 15, 1920, to John and Agnes Ramancek Fojtik and went to her eternal glory on April 29, 2018 at the age of 98. Mary was born and raised in Jarrell, Texas, before moving to Corpus Christi where she met and married the love of her life, Eugene H. Cabla. They farmed together for many years in the West Sinton area until his death. She enjoyed tending to her huge garden, canning, making kolaches and strudel for her family. Mary loved cooking and baking for her family. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In recent years she lived in North Richland Hills, Texas.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings Albert (Veronica) Fojtik, Josef Fojtik, Emma Fojtik, Hermine (Anton) Janosek, John Fojtik, Adela (John) Drozd, Rudolph (Della) Fojtik, Lydia (Joe) Matysek, Jeannette (Raymond) Pospech, Marcella (Oliver) Till, and Edwin Fojtik. She is also preceded in death by her great granddaughter Charlotte Kate Kinnebrew.

She is survived by her children Robert (Bonita) Cabla of Keller, Texas, Patricia (David) Coldiron of Houston, Texas and Gene (Rena) Cabla of Portland, Texas. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Maria Yolanda (DeLeon) Segovia, age 69, left us on Friday, May 25, 2018. Since her birth in Sinton, Tx till her death, she has been a contributing member of the community. She was born and raised in Sinton, Texas, the fifth child born to Lino O. DeLeon and Aurrora DeLeon. There she attended and graduated from Sinton ISD. She then attended Delmar College, and worked for the San Patricio County News. She then married her high school sweet heart, Juan Manuel "Johnny" Segovia in 1969 while he served in the United States Air Force. One could say they were true soul mates from the moment they were born. Having been born on the same day, at the same hospital, and in the same town back in 1949. When Yolanda returned to her home town, she showed her generosity and commitment with over 40 years of service with Sinton ISD. Left to honor Yolanda and remember her love are her Husband , Johnny Segovia , her three daughters , Melissa (Steve) Sepeda, Sandra(Roger) Rocha, and Lori (Richard) Painter; her five grandchildren Hallie Nicole Sepeda, Deric Jon Rocha, Mia Aurora Painter, Abigayle Kalin Rocha, and Adam Preslley Painter. She was also survived by six sisters Guadalupe Salinas, Alice Castillo, Mary Lerma, Minerva Amador, Irene Herrera, and Janie Gonzalez and one brother Lino DeLeon. Olefia Fira Elliott passed away Saturday August 4th. She and her twin sister Celia were born May 19, 1952 in Sinton, Tx to Oralia (Lala) Vasquez. Ofie grew up in Sinton, graduated, and joined the United States Air Force to become part of the first all-female flight crew in the history of the USAF. She chased space shuttles, documented missile testing logistics in flight, and visited multiple countries and continents all over the world. It was a visit to Okinawa, Japan that she met her late husband, Gary Elliott. They went on the marry and have 2 children. After Gary passed, Ofie retired from a full and honorable 20 year military career with her children in Alvin, Tx. She is survived by her children, Jason Victor Elliott (Samantha) and Bethanie Belen Elliott, her grandson Jason Lee Elliott, 5 siblings, Celia, Mary Alice, Henry, Salvador, and Crissy, and many nieces and nephews. There are also a multitude of friends and honorary family members who will carry her spirit and remember her contagious smile and unfailing generosity.

Augustin Lara, Sr, age 72, was called by Our Heavenly Father on August 28, 2018. He was born to Lazaro & Estella Lara on September 1st, 1945, in Edroy, Texas. Augustin was a lifelong resident of Edroy, a graduate of Odem High School (Class of 1964) and a proud parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Edroy. 

 

Augustin wore many hats throughout his lifetime. He was a farmer, a carpenter, an electrician, a plumber, a mechanic, a fisherman, a gardener, a grocery manager, and a car salesman. But most importantly, Augustin was a husband, a father, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, a son, a brother, an uncle, a cousin, a nephew, a neighbor, and a friend. Augustin was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. 

 

Augustin is preceded in death by both of his parents, two brothers (Lazaro Jr and Manuel), and his favorite dog, King. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Maricela Lara of Edroy; daughters, Anna Alicia (Rudy Moreno)  Lara and Angelica Eloisa (Rudy) Vidaurri, both of Mathis, Alma (Rene) Perez and Amanda (Jason Lopez) Lara, both  of Edroy, and Amalia “Angie” (Tom) Silguero of Katy; sons, Adrian (AnnaLisa) Lara of Edroy and Augustin “AJ” (Valerie) Lara Jr. of Corpus Christi; nine sisters; 31 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

 

Pallbearers will be Rudy Jr & David Moreno, Rene II & Gabriel Perez, Joshua & Jeremy Vidaurri, and Zachary & Joey Aguirre. 

Honorary Pallbearers will be Claudia Garza (Silguero) & Clarissa Hernandez (Silguero).

Lily M. Clark, 88, passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2018. She was a lifelong resident of Sinton and had been employed as a secretary for the City of Sinton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett E. Clark, her daughter, Barbara J. Clark, her mother and stepfather, Manuela and Anastacio Cruz and her brother, Charlie T. Moreno. She is survived by her sons, Alan E. Clark and Michael C. ( Pat ) Clark of Sinton, her daughter, Lynda ( Al ) Jamison of Corpus Christi, her brother, Arturo Moreno of Detroit, Michigan and two grandchildren. Faustino Romero, 79, passed away Saturday, October 6, 2018 after a short illness. He was a Veteran and former employee of Union Pacific Railroad. He is survived by his two daughters Lisa Beavers and Tina Buffa, both of Sinton, three sisters, Lolie Shewey, Alice Waddle, and Mary Elena Evans, and two Grandchildren. A rosary will be recited Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 7 P.M. at the Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Chapel. A Christian service will be held at 12 P.M. Monday, October 15, 2018 at the Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery will full military honors. 

Juan Israel Maduena, 65, of Beeville died Friday, September 28, 2018 surrounded by his family and friends. Israel Maduena was born January 31, 1953 in Sinaloa, Mexico. Preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. Survivors include his wife and Maria Maduena and one daughter Jennifer Ivette Maduena. He is Remembered by always lending a helping hand to anyone in need and had the ability to fix just about anything. He truly enjoyed drilling water wells where he worked at B&L Water well in Beeville, Tx for 20 years Apart from that he enjoyed most of his days with his animals and his family watching baseball and the Cowboys on Sundays. He was loved by many and will truly be missed as a great father, husband, and friend. Memorial funeral services will be held Saturday, October 13th at 1 PM at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses at 731 W. 4th St Sinton Texas.

Barbara "Nonnie" Iris Evans, age 89, went home to her Lord January 7, 2019, after living a full life, a life of laughter, adventure and lots of love. Barbara was born Sunday, May 5, 1929, in Tucson, AZ to Keenus Hutchison and Julia Adkins. She was the oldest of four siblings: Bill Hutchison, Sharon Brewster, Jerry Hutchison and Dick Hutchison. Though the past few years she lived in Corpus Christi, she considered Sinton, TX her life-long home. She truly believed in the marriage institution and is preceded in death by her three husbands, Robert C. Van Meter, William "Bill" Evans and Edward Bingham. She loved shopping for clothes, baking at Christmas, traveling across Texas to golf tournaments with Papa Bill, dancing in purple dresses, and serving her home church, First Baptist Church of Sinton and her granddaughter's church, Jackson Woods Presbyterian Church. In addition to her husbands, Barbara is preceded in death by two brothers, Dick and Jerry Hutchison, her son, Robert Van Meter, step-daughter, Kay Wilson, grandson, Morgan "Bubba" King and grandson-in-law Larry Baker. She is survived by two siblings, Bill and Sharon, her daughter, Judy Cassady, step-children, Martha Krause, Bill Evans and Judy Hicks, grandchildren, Stephanie Cozart, Kimberly Wilson, and Wendy Keach, 10 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren. Visitation will be held Friday, January 11, 2019 from 5 PM to 7 PM at Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home. Aladino O. "Nino" Martinez, 67, a special Angel in the Martinez family, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 24, 2019. Nino was well known and loved by all and was also known as Shaggy. He was a big fan of Tejano and Mariachi music and he loved to eat. When he was young the doctors said he would not live past eight years old but he out lived the doctors. He is preceded in death by his parents Domingo and Teofila Martinez, his brothers, Arturo, Alfredo, Amador, Abel and Alfonso, his sisters, Adela Chapa and Aurora Trevino. He is survived by his loving family, his brother, Andres ( Dominga ) Martinez of Sinton and his sister, Amelia ( Bill ) Sorrell of Kilgore, numerous nieces and nephews. Juanita R. Martinez, 99, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 23, 2019. She was a lifelong resident of Sinton and was a good loving mother. She is preceded in death by her husband Dionicio Martinez, two sons, Alonzo and Gonzalo, one daughter, Oralia,three grandsons, Freddy Martinez, Omar Martinez and Hector Garza, Jr. and one

granddaughter, Gracie Castillo. She is survived by her sons, Lyonso Martinez of Corpus Christi, Ociel Martinez of Sinton and Nestor Martinez of Davenport, Iowa, one daughter, Esther Garza of Sinton, three brothers and five sisters, 28 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, 17 great great grandchildren, 15 great, great, great grandchildren and 5 great, great, great, great grandchildren. Our beloved mother, Janet Marie Myrick Smith, age 84, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on Monday, January 28, 2019.  Janet was born on December 12, 1934 in Sinton Texas, the first of three children born to Ace Curtis Myrick and Janie Omega Williams Myrick.

 

She graduated from Sinton High School in 1953, was a member of the national honor society, high school choir, acted in theater, and played the clarinet in the high school marching band. Janet married Charles Heywood Smith, Jr. on June 1, 1958. They resided in San Antonio during their years of marriage.  She and Heywood were the proud parents of three children.

She was a member of the Sinton First Baptist Church, and a lifetime member of Alamo Heights OES in San Antonio. Retiring in 1995 from Northside ISD in San Antonio, Janet pursued lifelong hobbies of family events, line dancing, country western dancing, dominos, cruises with friends, and fellowship with all. She loved attending the Sinton High School Reunions to visit with all her Sinton friends.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband; parents; in-laws- Charles H. Smith Sr. and Lillie Mae Smith; brother- Ace (Eddie) Myrick and wife Marilyn Haynes Myrick; brother- Robert Curtis Myrick; brother-in-law - Willis Stebbins; and nephew - Ryan Myrick.

She is survived by her children, Paula Owens; Darlene Stander and husband Steve; Charles Smith III and wife Pam; sisters-in-law Linda Myrick and Katherine Stebbins; Grandchildren Breanna Smith, Brittney McClellan and husband John David; Justin Stander and wife Lauren, David Stander, Destiny Savage, Jessica Melton and husband Kobe, LaCoda Torres and husband Valentin; 6 Great -Grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family and friends.

The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to the staff of Greenwood Home Care of San Antonio for their care and support.
