Maria Marroquin Cuellar, age 84, went to be with the Lord on September 20, 2026, surrounded by all her loving family. Maria was born on October 12, 1941, in Edroy, Texas as the baby of 11 children to Jose and Gregoria Marroquin. She was lovingly known to everyone as “May.”

May was known by many for her quick wit, loving nature, and honesty. She had a way of making people smile and laugh with her honest nature. One of her favorite pastimes was playing Bingo with several of her nieces.  Family was the center of her life. She looked forward to the annual Marroquin Family Reunion; a tradition held since 1974. She also recently helped organize a reunion for her late husband’s Cuellar family. She was everyone’s favorite “Tia May", and they knew they could call her at any time of the day.

She leaves behind her children, Hilda (Juan) Martinez, Michael (Debbie) Cuellar, and Bonnie (David) Penn. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren – Amanda Jasso, Monica “Andie” Cuellar, John David Martinez, David Anthony Penn, William Penn, Natalie Martinez, Michael “Mikey” Cuellar, and Michelle Penn and 10 great-grandchildren with one on the way, and 1 great-great- grandchild. Being a grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother brought her great joy, and she treasured the time she spent with her family.

She is preceded in death by the love of her life, her devoted husband of 65 years, Bonifacio “Bone” Cuellar. She missed him dearly. They will be remembered for the way they danced together. They moved with such grace that it seemed the music belonged to them. Every step, smile, and glance reflected the enduring love they shared. The family finds comfort in believing they are together once again, hand in hand and sharing one more beautiful dance in Heaven.

She is also preceded in death by her parents Jose and Gregoria Marroquin; her siblings, Guadalupe, Juanita, Carlos, Gilberto, Ricardo, Gabriella, Consuelo, Fidel, Santiago Sr., and Jose Jr.; and her special niece, Mary Lou Rios; and other nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., Friday, September 25, 2026, at Ritchea Gonzales Funeral home, 120 S. McCall, Sinton, Texas, 78387. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 19012 County Road 1598, Edroy, Texas, 78370. Interment will follow at Edroy Cemetery 18336 County Road 1168, Edroy, Texas, 78368.
