Martha Tice

Martha Elizabeth Pool Tice, a beloved lifelong resident of Sinton, Texas; passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, in San Antonio at the age of 101.  Born on February 11, 1924, on her family's farm in West Sinton, Martha was a fifth generation farmer who lived a life defined by faith, family, service, and adventure.  A 1940 graduate of Sinton High School, where she competed as a state level tennis player, Martha went on to attend Mary Hardin-Baylor University and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas A&I University in 1945.  That same year, she married the love of her life, Bob Tice, on May 14th in Sinton while he was on leave during World War II.  Martha dedicated many years to teaching elementary school students in both Austin and Sinton.  Her commitment to nurturing young learners and her passion for education left a lasting impression on countless lives.

A woman of many gifts and interests, Martha was a skilled cook, an expert seamstress, an avid reader who read every large print book in the Sinton Library, and a proud, longtime member of the Garden Club.  She loved a good bridge game and enjoyed planning and organizing every detail of the international trips she and Bob took during their retirement; carefully researching the countries and customs before each cruise or journey.  Together, they traveled to every continent except Antarctica, though Martha especially cherished their visits to Thailand, the Baltic region, and river cruises through China and Russia.  Martha joyfully served as a women's Bible study leader and teacher at Sinton Presbyterian Church for over 60 years.  She also ran the church's clothing distribution center for many years and served as a summer camp counselor at Presbyterian camps across Texas.  She volunteered her time at the Sinton Museum, contributing treasured family heirlooms and antiques to preserve local history.

She is survived by her daughters, Jobeth McLeod of San Antonio and Jane (Gary) Kriegel of Kingsville; five grandchildren: John (Cara Beth) McLeod and Elizabeth McLeod of Austin, Katharine (Dale) Barden of Garden Ridge, Karl (Brittni) Kriegel of Corpus Christi, and Karie (Nathan) Castillo of Ricardo; and eight great-grandchildren: Mackenzie, Chloe, Payton, Molly, Delilah, Carly, William, and Huxley.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Sinton Presbyterian Church, 221 Merriman, Sinton, Texas.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Presbyterian Children's Homes and Services, Sinton Presbyterian Church, or a charity of one's choice.  Martha's legacy of love, hospitality, curiosity, and service will live on through the generations of her family and all those blessed to have known her.
