Olivia Huerta Medellin, age 103, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2026.
She was born on May 17, 1923, to Jesus and Petra Herrera Huerta and was raised in Tivoli, Texas.
Shortly after marrying Charlie, Olivia made Odem, Texas, her home, where they began building their family. Their first daughter, Dolores, was born there, followed eleven years later by their second daughter, Petra. They enjoyed a vibrant social life and open their home to family and friends.
Olivia possessed an extraordinary determination and entrepreneurial spirit. She began working at Coin's Department Store, where her dedication and business acumen quickly became evident. When the opportunity arose to purchase the store from the Coin family, she stepped forward with courage and confidence. Combining what she had learned with her own natural business instincts, Olivia successfully owned and operated the store for many years until its closure in the mid-1990s.
Together, Olivia and Charlie built not only a successful business but also a life centered on faith in hard work, perseverance, and providing opportunities for their family.
Through their sacrifices, they made it possible for both of their daughters to attend and graduate from college-an accomplishment of which they were deeply proud.
Olivia will be remembered for her strength, determination, generous spirit, and unwavering commitment to creating opportunities for those she loved. She worked tirelessly not only to provide for her family, but to give them a future with greater possibilities than the one she herself had known. She didn't simply earn a living-she changed the trajectory of her family's future.
Olivia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Esteban "Charlie" Medellin, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, hard work, and devotion to family.
She is survived by her two daughters, Dolores Zamarripa (Johnny) and Petra Garcia (Robert); her grandchildren, Elena Wisdom (Rob), Dahlia Rivera (Fernando), and Martin Zamarripa (Sonia) and Sela Garcia, great-grandchildren, Moriah, Joshua, Acacia, Daniel Timothy, Benjamin, and Zoey.
A rosary will be recited on Monday, July 13, 2026 at 1 PM at Ritchea-Gonzales Funeral Home in Sinton. A committal service and burial will follow ar Memorial Cemetery in Odem, Texas.
